Employee Inspires Others to Go Over the Edge
We value the volunteer work our employees and retirees do in the community. I want to share why I nominated my fellow colleague Sarah McMahon, PNM director of Business Operations, for the Mayor’s Volunteer of the Year.
Sarah’s passion for the Special Olympics New Mexico is so impactful and inspiring. Sarah has a brother who participates in Special Olympics. She raised over $26,000 by participating in the Over the Edge event, which also involved her soliciting pledges and people brave enough to rappel down the New Mexico Bank and Trust Building on behalf of Special Olympics.
I’m so honored to work with someone whose enthusiasm and commitment to this cause over the years is unparalleled. She truly is fearless. Sarah has transitioned into accepting a deeper volunteer role by serving on Special Olympics New Mexico’s Sustainable Fund-Raising Committee and has since committed over 200 hours of service. This year, Sarah was elected to the Special Olympics New Mexico Board of Directors.
As you can see, I felt compelled to nominate Sarah and I am proud to say she was recognized for her service. She has little tolerance for the social injustice many New Mexicans with intellectual disabilities face and thus works very hard to create opportunities that change attitudes and behaviors towards them. Sarah is a champion and I am proud to say I know her.
